Properties: Grey white waxy solid, or colorless liquid, soluble in water, methanol, acetone, and glycol, slightly soluble in toluene, insoluble in petroleum ether.
Usage:
Ethephon is a plant growth regulator that promotes maturation, plant dwarfing, alters proportion of male and female flowers, and induce certain male sterility in some crops. It is widely used to ripen fruits and tomatoes, increase tillers in rice and wheat to avoid lodging, increase the production of rubber tree and lacquer tree, and promote the maturity of cotton and tobacco, regulate plant growth cycle, and improve quality.
